COSTUME AT THE TURN OF THE CENTURY 1990 – 2015

U.S. Premiere of the Internationally Acclaimed Exhibition Curated by Igor Roussanoff, UNCA’s Visiting Professor of Drama

ON EXHIBIT: August 15 –September 28, 2016
OPENING RECEPTION: 5pm Friday, Aug. 26 in the Blowers Gallery (Ramsey Library)

UNC Asheville will host the U.S. premiere of the international exhibition Costume at the Turn of the Century 1990-2015, from August 15th –September 28th, 2016 in various galleries and spaces on campus, including Ramsey Library’s own Blowers Gallery and most of the main floor of the library.

Costume designer and performance artist, Mariaelena Roque, from Spain, and UNC Asheville Professor of Music, Wayne Kirby, will perform at 6pm on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016 in the Highsmith Union Grotto Theatre. An opening ceremony will be held at 5pm on Friday, August 26th, 2016 in the Blowers Gallery of the Ramsey Library, followed by a reception at 6pm in the S. Tucker Cooke Gallery of Owen Hall.
This became possible thanks to collaboration with the A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum in Moscow, where the first production of the exhibition took place from June – September 2015.
This exhibition includes costume designs from 31 countries, and features original renderings, theatrical production photographs, videos, and actual costumes.
The data collected for the exhibition is included in the new, second edition, 680 page catalog “Costume At The Turn Of The Century 1990 -2015”. It is also archived, preserved, and shared with professionals, educators, and future designers, as well as the general public through the OISTAT/BCSTM Gallery’s website.
Special thanks goes out to the OISTAT, management and staff of the A. A. Bakhrushin Central State Theatre Museum, Head of the Project “Costume at the Turn of the Century 1990 —2015” Dmitry Rodionov, all of the participants and especially the curators of this exhibition, for their contribution to the creation of this extraordinary project.
